Benn Marion's sketch

Telepath Tactics is a turn-based tactical sRPG with destructible battlefield environments, multiple game types, elevation bonuses, status effects, and 22 unique unit classes with distinct strengths, weaknesses and abilities that shape their role on the battlefield.

Engine

Telepath Tactics features a completely new engine written from-the-ground-up. It features an intuitive mouse-driven interface and a million little wish list items accumulated from previous Telepath games:

  • battlefields can be any size
  • click on a character to see every space it can move to, then click a space and it will walk to it automatically
  • each unit has multiple elemental strengths and weaknesses
  • build battlefield objects (like bridges and barricades) in unlimited quantities, or place explosive charges to take down walls and other destructible objects
  • attacks that can hit at multiple ranges
  • battlefield elevation with effects on movement and ranged attacks
  • see every attack's element and base damage before you attack

Campaign

Telepath Tactics features a single player campaign taking place in the Dundar Archipelago. Lead an army through a conflict laced with tactical quandaries and political intrigue as powers jockey for control over the valuable Isle of Kovit.

Campaign Intro

The Dundar Archipelago: an enormous cluster of islands spread across thousands
of square miles of ocean.

In the earliest times, each island was largely isolated, its inhabitants—if there
were any—left to develop a unique culture untouched by its neighbors.

Eight hundred years ago, Ser Gilliam Dundar changed that. Making use of new
sailing and navigation technologies, he led a massive army on a whirlwind
conquest of the archipelago, absorbing island after island into a sprawling
empire that would endure for centuries.

With no unifying culture to bind them, Emperor Dundar and his successors required
a deft hand to keep tensions among the islands under control.

But even a canny and watchful emperor cannot always staunch the ambitions of
ruthless men. A small garrison sits in disputed territory on the Isle of Kovit,
unaware of the disastrous events soon to transpire...

Characters

Multiplayer

Telepath Tactics features six-player multiplayer with any combination of human players or AI opponents battling for supremacy. Team matches are supported, as well as multiple game types.

Classes

  • Swordsman - a sturdy melee unit with slashing attacks and up to 2 counterattacks per turn. Swordsmen have some resistance to physical attacks.
  • Spearman - a sturdy melee unit with piercing attacks, as well as greater health and range than the swordsman. Spearmen have some resistance to physical attacks.
  • Lizardman - a sturdy melee unit with bludgeoning, status-effect-inducing attacks. Faster than both the swordsman and spearman, with a chance to dodge attacks, but no physical resistance and significant weakness to heat and cold attacks.
  • Bowman - a frail ranged unit with powerful piercing attacks (some of them AOE) and a counterattack.
  • Engineer - a mediocre fighter with the unique ability to lay explosive charges, build bridges, and place barricades on the battlefield.
  • Crossbowman - a ranged unit with less range than the bowman, but greater health and a bayonet attack for melee defense. Has an explosive bolt for destroying weak battlefield objects and easily detonating explosive charges.
  • Assassin - a frail but extremely fast melee unit with slashing attacks and a huge bonus to backstab attacks. Can leap over units and battlefield obstacles. Has a chance to dodge all attacks.
  • Cavalry - an armored warrior that rides a giant praying mantis. Has a significant movement range and a piercing lance attack that doesn't end its turn. Because cavalry can continue to move after attacking, they are useful for hit-and-run maneuvers.
  • Healer - a frail, slow-moving unit with no offensive abilities whatsoever, but which is nonetheless crucial to keeping your other units alive. Healers are weak to physical attacks.
  • Mentalist - mentalists have mental attacks, can push and pull characters and objects at a distance, can levitate, can send flying units crashing to the ground, and can return damage they have taken to nearby enemies.
  • Pyrokineticist - a unit with fire attacks that are especially good at destroying wooden objects and setting enemy units on fire. They can thaw frozen units.
  • Cryokineticist - a unit with cold attacks that are especially good at destroying stone objects and freezing enemy units solid. They can douse burning units.
  • Photokineticist - a unit with light attacks that are especially good at destroying stone objects and blinding enemy units. They can cause blindness in enemies that attack it.
  • Skiakineticist - a unit with shadow attacks that are especially good at destroying wood objects and corroding enemy movement range. They can counterattack with shadow attacks.
  • Stone Golem - a lumbering automaton with powerful bludgeoning attacks and high resistance to physical attacks. They can pick up other units and throw them.
  • Bronze Golem - a lumbering automaton with AOE slashing attacks and a drill for punching through walls. They can build up its speed on a turn-by-turn basis, as well as charging at other units to stun them.
  • Spirit - a flying unit with low health but very high resistance to physical attacks. The spirit has huge amounts of psy points and the ability to quickly generate more. Without much in the way of offensive abilities, the Spirit is best used as a support unit, replenishing the energy of friendly units as needed.
  • Red Spriggat - flying fighters with a claw attack and fire-based breath attacks that hit multiple spaces in a row. Strong against heat attacks, but weak to cold.
  • Frost Spriggat - flying fighters with a claw attack and cold-based breath attacks that hit multiple spaces in a row. Strong against cold attacks, but weak to heat.
  • Dark Spriggat - flying fighters with a claw attack and shadow-based breath attacks that hit multiple spaces in a row. Strong against shadow attacks, but weak to light.
  • Gold Spriggat - flying fighters with a claw attack and light-based breath attacks that hit multiple spaces in a row. Strong against light attacks, but weak to shadow.
  • Shadowling - fast-moving flying unit that can teleport through occupied spaces, obstacles, and even walls. Has only mental and shadow attacks.
